Personal Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering is loaded with benefits.  When you do volunteer work you are helping other people or animals.  You can improve your own community or even help improve neighborhoods on the other side of the planet.  Volunteering also has personal benefits:

  • It’s a great way to get work experience if you are just starting out in your carrier.
  • You will meet new people and make some new friends
  • It improves your sense of self-worth and help elevate feelings of depression

  1. rebornicity says:

In my country, very high levels of employment, racial discrimination in labour laws, so our son started working unpaid for eight months before getting paid for the first time. He did benefit very much in ways you describe. Another gent volunteered as an unpaid security guard at a logistics company, ended up in a top management position within two years. I am a volunteer missionary myself and have gained exceptional experience and knowledge. I just posted on this earlier today myself!

  2. I’m so glad you put “helps alleviate feelings of depression” in there. When I worked in mental health, I found that connecting people with their communities as contributors was incredibly therapeutic. 🙂
