Strangest Mascot Ever

According to the Oxford Dictionary, a mascot is “a person or thing that is supposed to bring good luck or that is used to symbolize a particular event or organization.”

I think Delta State University in Mississippi has the strangest mascot ever.  Their mascot is okra.  Why in the world would anyone want a slimy vegetable to symbolize their school?

What is the strangest mascot you ever heard about?  I am sure there are some really weird ones out there.

  1. hahaha That is sort of a silly mascot. It would be interesting to figure out why that was chosen. Maybe because it sort of looks like an upside down Greek Delta? I just googled the strangest mascots and there are some doozies. I won’t even comment on the weirdest one I saw, but the University of California – Santa Cruz: Sammy The Banana Slug is a close second. LOL

  2. I can’t top the Fighting Okra, but here in Washington, The Evergreen State College’s mascot is Speedy the Geoduck. You should look up the college’s web page. They pride themselves on how silly their mascot is.
