Favorite Author

Someone asked me the other day, “Who is your favorite author?”

I thought about it for a minute and I don’t have a favorite author.  That sounds weird, since I love to read.

I read all kinds of books.  I enjoy the classics, popular novels, history, science, psychology, religion, economics, personal development, and even financial management books.

What do you think?  Am I just weird?  Do you have a favorite author?

You’re not weird for not having a favourite. Some people have one, some don’t. I enjoy all kinds of books, like you, but am somehow a huge fan of Oscar Wilde. I also appreciate Robert Louis Stevenson, not just because he worked wonders with words too, but also because he wrote in all kinds of genres instead of just picking one. So extra brownie points go to him for that 🙂

  2. Wilbur Smith, South Africa. I have spent almost 40 years with this man (his books). When I need a pick-me-up, I go to his books. When I am sick and need a vacation, I read his books. I love lots of authors but his book stay with me.

  3. It is hard to pick a favourite author when you read a variety of genres. I guess I would say my most favourite is Jane Austen because her books I can read over and over and never tire of them. But I have loads of other favourites.

    • Hello I would have to agree …my most favourite children’s chapter book author would have to be Darlene Foster, author of The Amanda series:) but since I have been 12 years member of Outlandish Ladies Bookclub I can’t say I have any one favourite author…but have enjoyed a variety of genres for sure interested ng r adding that’s for sure.

I always interpret the question, “Who is your favorite author?” to mean favorite fiction writer. I, too, am all over the place in my reading choices: philosophy, science, theology, psychology, history, humor, etc. And even though I have read and thoroughly enjoyed many books by philosophical authors such as Alan Watts, I would only invoke his name if I were asked, “Who is your favorite philosopher?” So to confine my answer to fiction writers, my favorite is Kurt Vonnegut. Interestingly, though, he did not write my favorite novel. His body of work taken all together makes him my favorite. My favorite book is probably Wuthering Heights, but since Emily Bronte pretty much just wrote that one book, it seems over-the-top to call her my favorite author.

  7. I think it’s the having to pick just one that’s hard – if you love reading, chances are you’ll have a ‘fond few’. I could maybe narrow it down to a handful…but just one? No way!
