Planet Fitness Review

I have heard some people criticize Planet Fitness.  The gym only has basic weight machines and cardio machines.  There is a bucket of tootsie rolls at the check-in counter.  They use a lunk alarm if you make to much noise.  All these things are true.

However, I like Planet Fitness.  I feel more confutable there, since they cater to those who are not typical gym users.  I feel intimidated going into most gyms.  I don’t say that to accuse anyone in those gyms.  I have never had a bad experience at any gym.

I see people that are so far ahead of me in the fitness arena and I feel inadequate.  I know it’s a personal issue and I need to work on it.  Being able to go to Planet Fitness has helped me overcome those feelings.

That’s why I enjoy Planet Fitness.  If you have any experience with Planet Fitness, good or bad, tell me about it.  I would like to know what other people think about this gym.

  1. I was a planet fitness member at one time. They strive to make it comfortable for people who aren’t usually active or a gym rat. Which is awesome! Making people feel good about being there is the point of helping someone get fit and healthy. It has to start with being comfortable in your own surroundings. I recommend Planet Fitness to people all the time. It’s also VERY reasonably priced compared to others and for that I think it’s worth being respectfully quieter lol.

I stopped going to another gym because I didn’t feel comfortable there. I go to another gym that a lot of older people attend and I can exercise with out being looked at in a condescending way. The purpose of going is to improve ourselves. We are all in different places in our lives for what ever reason.

  3. I’m a member there now simply because of the price, but there are pro’s and con’s to everything I suppose. On one hand they do not have very many options in the free weight department which is a negative, yet there are always plenty of machines available (at the ones I go to at least.) And since I travel I enjoy being able to visit multiple locations with my black card membership. Oh, and tanning, massage, etc. For me I’m sacraficing some things for convenience, but it works for me right now.

  4. Some locations have more than enough equipment for people at all levels of their fitness journey. I’ve heard stories of some locations kicking people out for groaning and all that too much, I think after a couple warnings that’s fine. There is no need to be obnoxious. I can understand people wanting more privacy from judgement while they work out, and PF seems to do well with that. Best alternative – go to the gym as early as possible.

  5. I, too, have a Planet Fitness membership–mainly because I don’t know anyone who goes there and I like my own space 🙂 one thing I will say about the gym, though, is that it’s really nice to have massage chairs and hydromassage beds! That’s the best thing you could ever put into a gym.

Don’t worry about comparing yourself to others in the gym–it really is hard, especially since we have such expectations put on us nowadays to look a certain way, but as long as you look at how far you’ve come from the beginning of your journey, that’s enough motivation to push you forward 🙂

  6. I’ve never set foot in a Planet Fitness. I was an avid gym goer once upon a time, but then life hit. This was an interesting perspective on PF in that I was unaware that so many people felt comfortable here because they’re around others who aren’t regular goers

I have alot of planet fitness’ around me but I’ve never been inside of one. I was under the impression they were not as worth it (equiptment wise) as other gyms. How much is a bsaic membership?
