The rate at which a person can mature is directly proportional to the embarrassment he can tolerate. – Douglas Engelbart
One person’s embarrassment is another person’s accountability. – Tom Price
But I learned that there’s a certain character that can be built from embarrassing yourself endlessly. If you can sit happy with embarrassment there’s not much else that can really get to ya. – Christian Bale
When I lived in Moscow, Russia, I used the public transportation system to get around the city. One day, I accidentally got on the wrong bus and ended up in the middle of nowhere.
I was completely lost. I looked around and saw a field with some trees. There was a two lane road, but I didn’t see anything in the distance.
I thought about my predicament for a while. This was in the mid 90’s, so I didn’t have a cell phone. Also, there wasn’t a payphone in the area.
I decided to hitchhike to the nearest subway station. I was very familiar with the subway lines and had a map, so I knew I could get home if I could just get to the subway station.
It was the best plan I could come up with at the time and it worked. I made it home and felt very relieved.
A few days later, I talked to my mom on the phone and told her the story. She was not enthused. I got a lecture about being safe and other stuff like that.
I just finished reading The Aliomenti Saga and it was excellent.
The Aliomenti is an organization with advanced technology and abilities. Their goal is to control the world, keep regular humans subservient, and to live a life of luxury.
However, some of the members disagree with those principles and start a splinter group called the Alliance. Their goal is to reform the original organization and help all of human kind reach their full potential. Unfortunately, the group members are viewed as traitors and are in danger of being executed by the Aliomenti.
The story is full of interesting twist and turns. The characters are well developed and complex. The ending was a pleasant surprise that kept me contemplating the whole thing for several days.
I truly enjoyed reading this series and I recommend it.
The main characters in the book are a young boy that was abducted by a schizophrenic man who believes he is saving his dead brother, a stressed out cop with major family problems that is trying to locate the boy, and a woman on the run from the law, due to a felony warrant, that manages to become a hero.
The story is sad at times and will leave you despairing humanity. However, the triumphant ending will most certainly lift your spirt. The book is engaging and an excellent read.
It’s just a guy and his horse hanging out at a gas station, like you do in Alabama.
I know you enjoy playing with worms. However, I do not appreciate finding worms in my bedroom. From now on, please leave your worms in the yard.
I have lived in Harvest, Alabama, for approximately ten years, so I call it home.
Harvest is a rural unincorporated community in Madison County and is located near Huntsville. Harvest has a population of a little over 5,000 people.
