Maxfield Parrish – My Favorite American Artist

Maxfield Parrish (1860-1966) is my favorite American artist.

I saw a Maxfield Parrish exhibit at the Huntsville Museum of Art several years ago and quickly fell in love with his work.  His images have a whimsical feel that makes you want to smile.  The colors are bright with excellent contrast.  When I view his art, I feel at peace.

His influence continues to this day.  Here are a few examples:

  • The color Parrish blue was named after him.
  • His work was featured on a US stamp in 2001.
  • Elton John used his work for a background image on his Caribou album.
