  1. Many folks see this as the past, overseas. Distant somehow, removed.
    I remember Mishu Yarkony and his wife.
    Every now and then the sleeve of his shirt would pull back enough to show the serial number tattooed on his forearm.
    Even in remembering, my stomach knots.
    Alas, the killing continues to this day, with new labels.
    Kurds, Syrians.
    The dead no longer suffer.
    Our prayers should be for the living, who must witness this, and cry.
