I do enjoy reading the classics. A few of my favorites are:
- Great Expectations
- The Picture of Dorian Gray
However, there are a few that I just can’t stand. I don’t get the appeal.
- Jane Eyre
- Moby Dick
- Canterbury Tales
How about you? Do you enjoy reading the classics? Are there any classics that you hate reading?
I decided to read Beowulf again. I know this sounds nerdy, but I actually like the book. You have:
- Murder and Mayhem
- Death and Destruction
- Blood, Guts, and Gore
What more can you ask for?
The book “Common American English Idioms,” is a great resource for any non-native English speaker. It covers common slang phrases used on a daily basis in American (“putting your foot in your mouth” – for example).
I give the book an A
While I was in high school, I read The Canterbury Tales. However, last month I decided to read the book again.
The book was written by Geoffrey Chaucer and it contains multiple short stories. It was written in the vernacular, instead of Latin or French. This was extremely uncommon at the time, which is why many literary experts believe this book had a huge impact on English literature.
There were a few stories in the book that I liked, but most of them did not impress me. I know The Canterbury Tales is considered a classic piece of literature, but honestly I am not that fond of it.
