Would you Rather….

Would you rather win a Nobel Prize or be a rockstar?  I came across this question the other day and it got me thinking.

I would rather win a Nobel Prize.  As a Nobel Prize winner, I would receive recognition for my achievements and it would be a great honor.  It would open up possibilities for grant money or really cool jobs.  I would also receive cash prizes, which is nice.

If I was a rockstar, I would be famous and have no privacy.  People would follow me and try to take my picture.  I am an extreme introvert, so I would hate dealing with that.  I would also have to tour constantly and would have very little personal time.  Even though being a rockstar would make me mega rich, I would still prefer being a Nobel Prize winner.

How about you?  Would you rather win a Nobel Prize or be a rockstar?

Introvert Anxiety

I am an extreme introvert.  I could go days without talking to people and be very happy.  In fact, I really enjoy having days without human contact.

I am not anti-social, and I do enjoy being around people.  I just need that alone time to recharge my batteries.

When I am forced to interact with people all the time and I don’t get enough alone time, I become irritable and my anxiety levels increase drastically.  I actually feel agitated and it can even cause my depression symptoms to increase.

I try to explain this to people, but they don’t seem to understand.  They don’t realize how important it is for me to have time of personal isolation.  I don’t want to hurt people’s feelings, but I just need to be alone.

Introvert Pride Shirt

I am an extreme introvert.  I thought it would be cool to get a shirt that perfectly proclaimed my introverted personality, so I went to Amazon and found several really good designs.

  1.  This first shirt is totally me.

2.  This shirt is my favorite.

3.  A social club that doesn’t require actual interaction with people, sounds like a cool idea.

4.  I can deal with a club that meets occasionally, in small groups, for limited periods of time.

5.  That’s why I prefer living in rural areas, the cities are so peopley.

Are you an introvert and can you relate to any of these shirts?  Let me know which one is your favorite.

Amazing Accomplishments

To me it seems amazing that anything is ever accomplished in the Thaler household.  We have a mix of extreme introverts and type B personalities, which makes things interesting.

Common Conversations in the Thaler House:

  • Thaler A – Can you do such and such?
  • Thaler A (days later) – How come you didn’t get such and such done?
  • Thaler B – You were serious about that?  I thought it was a suggestion.

  • Thaler A – Can you do blah blah tomorrow?
  • Thaler B – It depends on what time I wake up?
  • Thaler A – What time do you plan on getting up in the morning?
  • Thaler B – I don’t know, it depends on how tired I am.

  • Thaler A – We need to complete the whatever project today.
  • Thaler B – First, I have to lay on the couch and psych myself up for that project.
  • Thaler A – Cool, I’ll check back with you in 30 minutes.

  • Thaler A – We have to reschedule the such and such appointment.  That will make three appointments in one day and I can’t deal with that much human interaction in the same day.
  • Thaler B – Agreed, I will reschedule the appointment.
  • Thaler A – Cool

The amazing thing is we do actually manage to get things done and take care of all our responsibilities.  It’s baffling, but true.

Always Know What to Say – A Book Review

I am not a great conversationalist.  Sometimes I struggle with how to initiate or conclude a conversation, so I decided to read “Always Know What to Say” by Peter Murphy.

The book did contain several really good suggestions and even laid out some exercises that are designed to improve your conversational skills.  I wish the author went into more detail on his main points, because it did seem a bit rushed at times.

I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it.  I give this book a B+
